Today I was reading 2 Timothy 1:7 and it says: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.” So, what in the world does this mean, you say?
Well, it’s pretty simple actually but still very powerful. Basically, in Jesus’ death we have within us a spirit of power, love and self- discipline not of fear and timidity. This means that when we feel scared or shy about something, those feelings are of our own making and doing, or the world’s doing, because naturally, God has not made us feel fear or timidity. This seems weird when you think abou it because we all feel scared or shy at times. Especially when it comes to certain things that we may not want to do, or situations that we aren’t exactly comfortable with.
BUT, in God we have all the ingredients we need to be able to face those uncomfortable, scary situations. We have great power, abounding love and strong self-discipline that can allow us to change evrything around us. Fear and timidity are inevitable at times, in the world we live in, it can’t be avoided. All we can do is choose to believe and use that spirit of power, love and self-discipline instead. We can use that power to overcome our fears and make them into dust beneath our feet. Fearing nothing in the lord. We can use that love to connect with people and get past uncomfortable situations. We can use that self- discipline to allow ourselves to not choose to have fear and timidity in situations where they seem to pop up the most.
It all comes down to choosing the spirit of power, love and self-disclipine over out fears and timidity. It all comes down to us choosing to tap into that spirit that God has given us to do the things he has called us to do in our lives and in his word. All can be possible if we trust the spirit he has given us over our own. If we use it to do great things in our lives that we can’t even begin to imagine.
We all have it there inside us, and just imagine the amazing things we could do if believed in it, trusted in it, and set our own desires and selves behind for his spirit that calls us to do his work and follow his plan. Choose for this week, or for whatever is left of this week to do exactly that. Use that gift of a powerful, loving, self-disciplining spirit God has given us to surrender to him and change the way you live.
I sincerely hope that this makes sense, and something I said may have resonated with you guys! What will you do for the remainder of this week to take hold of the spirit of power, love and self-discipline inside of you? I would LOVE to hear about it in the comments. As always, if you have any other additional questions, comments etc. please leave them below and I assure you I will read them and answer them all!! Thanks again!
Hope you enjoyed this little bit of life.
