The House is Your Heart

Hey Everybody!! I hope you have had good weeks and that this weekend was awesome for you. Today, I was thinking back to something that God had shown me and placed on my heart awhile ago and I realized I hadn’t done a ‘faith life’ post in awhile. SO, I thought it would be cool to share with you guys in a quick little post what God revealed to me because I think it’s pretty cool. Let’s get into it!

This whole thing revolves around the foundation and building of a house. This house has 3 parts: The foundation, the outside structure, and what’s on the inside. Those parts all connect to this verse: Ephesians 2:20-22 which says…

“built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone…And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”

You see, when we make the decision for Christ and we enter into his presence, he begins to work in us and over our hearts making us anew, clean, free in his glorious name. We start the building of his home in our hearts, alongside god and the holy spirit as mentioned in the above verse. Each part of this house is important, and has specific meaning. The building of this home, does not come over night. It requires time and a constant relentless pursual of jesus. You gotta go into it with open faith and a clean slate – a heart of intention. Let’s go through the different parts shall we?

The  Foundation:
How do we build a good foundation that when “the rain came down, the streams Rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house, yet it did not fall” (Matthew 7:24-27) ? By building your foundation on the rock. What is the rock? God’s word. By reading god’s word, learning his covenants, promises, laws and just plain words of wisdom, and how to put them into practice – you are building a firm foundation in your heart that will stand still through the tough times.

The exterior:
This comes from applying the things in god’s word to your everyday life. By your actions, your words putting it all into practice everyday. When you accept Jesus into your heart you will never be the same, forever changed. Not just in terms of the state of your heart and the foundations you are building in, but in the terms or how you act and portray yourself on the outside, as you put god’s word into practice: this is the exterior of the home He is building in our hearts. We build this by, as Colossians 3:12-14 says:

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”

The interior:
What’s on the inside is SO important because that is where your intention comes from. If you really intend to build a firm foundation in Christ, and clothe the exterior of your heart in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness and love, it’s gotta come from the inside. Intention is so important if you are too really accomplish these things in your heart. I guarantee it won’t always be easy, but trust me: it’s so worth it. Here’s what the rest of Colossians says about what we need on the interior of our houses:

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:15-16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This verse tells us that we are to let peace and thankfulness live in our hearts. But not just that, but we should also let those messages we built our foundation on and the ones we put into practice everyday dwell INSIDE or our hearts. By doing this, we can truly share god’s word with others because it is apart of us as well. And when you make god’s word live inside your heart, so will Jesus and spirit too.

February Favourites 2016

Hey Everybody! I hope your weekends and weeks have been so great, since I last posted. As you can maybe tell, I’m starting to develop a little bit of a new writing/posting schedule which will hopefully continue and grow as time goes on. But, for now, I thought I would tell you guys a few of my favourites things from the past month as it has been a WHILE since I last did a monthly favourites. Some of this stuff I have been loving for the past month, few months, or maybe year! Without further ado, let’s get into it.

#1: O’Keeffe’s Working Hands Hand Cream
This is not the first time that I have mentioned this amazing hand cream to you guys and it will probably not be the last!!! This hand cream is just so great, and it works SO well. You only need to use a little bit at a time and your hands feel moisturized really quickly. I have been using this for a while, and highly recommend it to you guys.

#2: Neutrogena Rapid Clear Spot Gel

I have been using this spot gel in replacement of my usual clean & clear stuff lately, and it works pretty well. I put it on every night before bed after washing and moisturizing my face, and I do notice a big difference in the morning when I wake up. I think I like the clean & clear stuff a little better still, but this stuff is a good substitute if you can’t find the other stuff.

#3: Pandora Purple Leather Charm Bracelet

I got this bracelet for Christmas this year, (as you would have seen if you read my christmas gifts haul) and I absolutely love it. It is super pretty and goes with a lot of different outfits, so I wear it pretty often. I’d love to eventually get more charms for it as time goes on, but for now I am really loving it!!

#4: Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin & Warm Vanilla Sugar Fragrance Mist

These two scents/body mists have been my two favourites over the winter/fall season. They both smell absolutely divine!! They are nice, sweet, light but not so light you can’t smell it on you and are great for the everyday at school. The Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin scent (on right, orange) reminds me the most of fall, but it is good for winter too. Warm Vanilla Sugar is a year round one as well, that is a perfect vanilla-y, classic scent.

#5: American Apparel Grey Knee High Socks

I just bought these socks on a trip downtown with a couple of friends to rideau centre (a hug mall where I live) and am absolutely in love with them. The materials is so soft and feels really nice on your skin. These socks go past the knee on me and they are SO COMFY and I love them alot. I wear them around the house alot and they are perfect for this time of year when it’s snowy outside. I also have another pair of white knee high socks from forever 21 that I mentioned in a previous post about go to cozy winter clothing , that I have still been loving. They are both super great!!

That’s all for now folks!!! Thanks for reading, & let me know in the comments what you have been loving this past month or for the past 8 months in the comments below!!! I’m always looking for new favourites and I love reading your guys’ comments!!

I hope you enjoyed this little bit of life.

French Toast Roll-Ups

Hey Everyone! I hope that everyone had great week and relaxing long family day weekend (if you live in Canada and had a day off on Family day. And if you didn’t I hope it was great otherwise!!) Just the other day, I tried out a recipe that was SUPER yummy that I really wanted to share with you guys!!! It’s a really awesome twist on french toast: French Toast Roll Ups.

French Toast Roll Ups, even though it might sound a little complicated, were actually really easy and simple to make. They are very customizable, you can easily do different combinations of fruit and spreads to suit your likes and whatever you have in your fridge at the moment. This recipe is perfect as a delicious treat for you, or you and friend, and can easily be adjusted to feed the whole family if you really wanted!!

Here’s what you’ll need:
– Any kind of bread you like for french toast (I used plain white bread)

– an egg

– 1-2 tsps of cinnamon

– 3-5 tablespoons of milk ( 3 – if it’s just for you, 5 – two people)

– a drop of vanilla extract (optional)

– any kind of fruit ( I used apple)

– any kind of breakfeast spread (I used nutella)

1. First, you make a traditional egg mixture for french toast. This is just a basic recipe feel free to add or take away ingredients depending on what you like or even use your own recipe. For this one however, you will crack one egg into a small bowl/dish, and add your milk, cinnamon and vanilla extract. Whisk ingredients together.

2. Grab your choice of bread, spread, and fruit.

3. Using a knife, cut off the crust or your bread, then roll it out with a rolling pin till thin and flat. Spread your choice of spread on top of your bread, this could be peanut butter, cream cheese, or jam, but I used nutella. Spread it on as thick or light as you want.

4. Cut up your fruit into small pieces. You could use strawberries, blueberries, bananas, whatever fruit you want to go with your spread. Layer a few pieces of your fruit along one edge of your bread, and then roll it up.

5. Take your completed roll and dunk it in your egg mixture you made in step 1, until completely coated in the mixture.

6. Repeat Steps 3-5 for as many french toast roll-ups as you want!

7. Grab a pan and place it on your stove. Turn your stove to medium-high heat. Place a bit of butter in the pan.

8. Once butter is melted, and pan is hot, place a few of your french toast roll-ups in the pan at a time to fry them. Fry them on both sides. Once they are golden brown, take them out of the pan and move them onto a plate.

9. Serve with lots of powdered sugar and maple syrup.

These roll-ups are the awesomest little Breakfast treat, and are so delicious you just HAVE to try them. If you try them, make sure to let me know how it went and whether you liked them or not in the comments below! And if you take any pictures, I would love it if you shared them with me on this blog’s Facebook page

Thanks for reading. I hope you guys enjoy these recipe posts and let me know if you want to see more, or have anything else you wanna see from me on this blog in the comments below!! Thanks again!!!

Hope you enjoyed this little bit of life.

My First Semester Exams Experience

Hey Everybody! Long time no see! I have been very busy (and lazy) these past few weeks so I apologize for the lack of postage. This has mainly been due to exams and all the studying and work I had to do associated with that the past month. So I figured as I hadn’t done a life post in awhile, it would be cool to update you guys on my life and tell you all about the craziness that has ensued this past little while.

So, this past semester I had 3 exams: french, physics and chemistry. And as soon as christmas break was over, I immediately creating my exam studying schedule (as you would know if you read my exam life tips post, which you can check out here). The exam that I was most stressed out about was physics. This was because physics, in case you have never taken it before, is VERY difficult and hard to wrap your head around (at least for me it was). This was also because the exam was worth 25% of my final mark. So the stress was real. On top of that having chemistry and french, wasn’t too bad. Chemistry had been my strong suit all year, as I understand that very well and french is a very simple exam that you can’t really study for so they weren’t as much of a concern but still figured quite a bit of my time and energy.

My first exam was french. As I said before the french exam is something you can’t really study for, so I spent a large amount of time that night just watching french news from france which by the way, is very hard to understand at times. And there was alot more going on in France than I thought there would be. Going into the exam I felt confident. We had two videos to listen to, then answer questions about and the first one was quite hard to understand but the second one was alot easier. Overall, it took me like an hour and a half and I left the class quietly, then with the door firmly shut behind me shouted “WOO HOO IM DONE”. Which was quite embarrassing looking back at it considering there was other people in the hall and other classes doing exams. 😬

My second exam was (sigh) physics. I went home and immediately started studying for this, going over all my keynote presentations that I had made throughout the year with all my notes on it for each unit. I even did a practice exam my teacher had posted on the website. I compared my answers with my friends and had got pretty well all the same answers as them, so I felt sorta confident, but I was hesitant to be confident because this is physics, and you never really know. But after this, i did my little cheat sheet he allowed us to have for our exam and went to bed. The next day, I walked into the class, sat down, saw everyone with their ipads on the ti nspire app (my school uses ipads in all our classes), looked down at my ipad-less desk, then litterally shouted in the middle of the class with my classmates all around me “OH MY GOSH. I FORGOT MY IPAD” At this point everyone was staring at me, some with dropped jaws, and me, about to have a full blown panic attack because I can’t do this without my ipad. Thankfully the teacher who was in the class with us told me not to worry because she had brought a calculator 🙏🏼🙌🏼. So i did the exam, and left feeling pretty good, and this time silently got down on my knees and raised my arms triumphantly to the air silently saying, YES YES YES IM DONE, after leaving the class.

My final exam was chemistry and as It was my last I had zero motivation to do any studying or work anymore. So, I did not do much studying the night before chemistry and just kinda reviewed everything once before heading to bed. Before heading out the door the next morning, I double checked I had my iPad (as I needed my calculator app again) and walked to school. Despite my lack of motivation to study, it was pretty good and I felt pretty confident at the end of the 2 hour exam time. I ended up actually getting my physics exam mark from my teacher after the Chem exam, and didn’t do as well as I thought. I was kinda disappointed but what can you do? At the end of the day I was just glad to be done.

After exams there was a lot of junk food eating, relaxing, sleeping and a whole lot of doing nothing. I have functions (math), world religions (in french as I am in french immersion), biology, and grade 12 french which means FOUR exams this term which I am super excited about and will definitely write about when the time comes.

I hope you enjoyed this lengthy ( I apologize) post and I hope your February/ new semester has been good wherever you are! Let me know in the comments below if you have any funny exam stories and please share because I’d love to hear about them and your experiences with exams! Thanks for reading!!!

Hope you enjoyed this little bit of life.
